Polotsk Light Festival is a part of PubLiCity project, which is co-funded by the European Union within the EU4Energy initiative and “Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects” programme (CoM-DeP). As the result of the project, more than 1500 modern street lights will be installed on 16 streets of the city, reducing energy consumption by 13% and greenhouse gas emissions by 25%. One of the aims of the project is to raise awareness of local residents on sustainable energy use and the role of energy efficient lighting in the city development and creation of attractive urban spaces. This is exactly why the city of Polotsk, together with Foundation Interakcia, decided to hold its first ever Light Festival. Finding great inspiration in the Lyon Fête des Lumières and the Lyon Light Festival Forum in 2017, the first Polotsk Light Festival took place on 31 August – 2 September 2018 in the framework of Energy Days during Polotsk City Days.
